Madeleine Duke writes with a striking vulnerability that touches and silences audiences. Her distinctive voice is paired with electric guitar, for a sound that sits somewhere between folk and pop. Unique melodies and phrasing with subtly acerbic lyrics explore themes of feminism, relationships and belonging. Her honest and endearing performance style has charmed audiences across Australia and now Europe.
When performing as a duo with drummer/electronic artist Mesut Gürsoy, Madeleine Duke's sound is given a darker and more complex landscape, giving more context to the underlying moods and themes of her writing.
As a singer Madeleine Duke has performed live in various notable bands including that of Courtney Barnett, The Finks, Ben Mason, Merri Creek Pickers and Zia McCabe's Brush Prairies, providing strong and supportive vocal harmonies across various genres. After winning the Darebin Songwriting Award in 2014 with her song 'Joshua', Madeleine began giving focus to her own writing. Her 2015 self-titled debut EP recorded with Tony Dupé (Grand Salvo, Holly Throsby, Saddleback) received attention across the Australian independent radio network.
Now based in Berlin, Madeleine is working on a 2019 release.
